Seal Explains Post-Split Media Blitz: People "Deserved Some Kind of Explanation"

"You can't all of a sudden take the philosophy of a monk and decide to go for a vow of silence," the singer says of his decision to discuss the end of marriage to Heidi Klum (a lot)

Got to hand it to Seal: He's very understanding of our needs.

"When you publicize your marriage as much as our marriage was publicized, when you renew wedding vows, when you do all those things...you're giving people a picture of an ideal relationship that people aspire to," the recently separated singer said on Australian radio show Fifi and Jules today, explaining why—instead of clamming up as celebs tend to do—he was all over the place after he and Heidi Klum announced they were ending their nearly seven-year marriage.

Can you believe it? Seal actually acknowledged the people's right to know!

"When it goes south, you can't all of a sudden take the philosophy of a monk and decide to go for a vow of silence," he continued. "It doesn't really work like that. I respect my wife's decision not to talk about that, but I felt that people at least deserved some kind of explanation why the picture of the ideal wasn't what they thought it was."

Seal really seemed to go above and beyond, though, taping Ellen, Piers Morgan Live and Tavis Smiley within a week of the breakup reveal and not imposing the usual moratorium on sticky personal questions. Quite the opposite in fact!

But while that might have seemed suspect at the time, those appearances were scheduled months in advance to promote his Soul 2 tour. And, even today, he was on the radio ostensibly to talk about his work on the Australian version of The Voice.

"It's not like this happened and I decided the next week to go on the [shows]," the Brit told Fifi and Jules.

"It's a difficult time," he said. "The best that one can do in this situation is handle it with dignity and civility...I tried my very best to protect the general welfare of my family, my wife included. It is a difficult time and you would hope you can behave like adults and try and protect those who are most important in this, which are your family."

He and Klum have three children together, as well as Klum's daughter from a previous relationship.

And it's not as if he was talking trash or anything. Seal said some lovely things about Klum during his media blitz, such as, "I still wear my wedding ring, because I'm still married to this incredible woman" and "she is still, in my opinion, the most wonderful woman in the world."

Boy, would we hate for this breakup to ever go south!
