A box-office hit in Taiwan, Formula follows gay 17-year-old Tony Yang as he journeys to the big city for romance and adventure. Randy roomie Chin King is determined to get the lad laid, but Yang has a yen for finding true love first. So, what's the virginal, hormonal guy to do then when he starts crushing on hunky Duncan Lai, a notorious heartbreaker (and dream-maker, love-taker, maybe?).
King warns not to mess around with him, but Yang's got a pang for the bad boy. And Lai, despite his major player ways, falls for Yang as well. Not for the cynical, this is one of those flicks where love happens at first glance and the cad has a heart of gold. Some of the comedy is over the top--queeny King royally hams it up--but this, uh, formulaic lark still has a goofy sweetness and endearing innocence (like Yang himself) that's kinda tough to resist.
