The James Bond film franchise is 50 years old, and 007 is still on the prowl for tough and seductive women.
Joining the ranks of Halle Berry, Ursula Andress, Jane Seymour, Honor Blackman, Teri Hatcher and many more, Skyfall's leading ladies Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe are ready to join some notably named company.
But times have changed in the last half-century, so before you get excited about the names of their characters, we should let you know that they're nothing close to the impossibly dubbed Pussy Galore. (Sorry.)
The 36-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star Harris doesn't take the usual role of a Bond girl. Instead, she plays Eve, a British field agent who can handle a steering wheel and even more so, her gun (She reportedly trained with handguns and automatic weapons for the film.)
The London-born actress tells InStyle that her character is "very intelligent and highly ambitious—her aim is to be as capable as James Bond. It's much more evolved, much more reflective of how women are now—multifaceted, multidimensional and equal to men."
Meanwhile, Parisian Marlohe—who will make her English debut in this film—takes on the role of Severine, the extremely sexy and hard-to-ignore woman that reminds us of former Bond girls.
Severine is employed by the villain, Raoul Silva, played by Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, and tries to warn 007 about what Silva's ways, but instead ends up (judging from the trailer) joining Bond in the shower.
Oh, well!
